5 summer news chez Gippa

I haven’t been posting for quite a while now, but there is a good reason: a lot have been changing in the past couple of months.

The first news: starting from July 2014 I am no longer cooperating with Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu. The upper management decided to focus more on US and Asia, while limiting direct business in Europe to UK only. I have been offered a great opportunity on OpenStack, but it would have involved even more travel to US and Asia, and I decided it was time to move on.

As a Director and CTO of GARL, I decided to invest even more on GARL and SecurePass. I recently hired a new Channel Manager for italian-speaking territories, including Italy and Ticino (Switzerland). Then, I decided to move to another country to develop business, the choice was London or Zurich. As we already have a presence in London, the obvious choice was to go for Zurich as the german-speaking territories needed more focus.

In July we opened a new office in Zug, few kilometers away from Zurich. Since then, in less than 4 weeks, our SecurePass was included in CapGemini’s cloud offering, I am in talks with IBM to include SecurePass in BlueMix, we started our talks with Barracuda and also with the leading distributor in DACH & Nordics.

I also started cooperating with Monetas AG as Director of Security and Operations. Monetas is Zurich-based startup that is willing to create a trading platform on digital currencies, mostly on Bitcoin. This will allow banks and exchanges to build their own trading software based on Monetas’ platform.

Last but not least, thanks to Alessio Treglia and Giampiero Paolillo, SecurePass’ authorization module for Apache will be included in the next release of Debian, codename “Jessie”, and the next release of Ubuntu, codename “Utopic Unicorn”. The module will be also available soon as in wheezy-backports.

Stay tuned for even more!!
